Unlikely Undocumented seeks to dispel stereotypes about race, class, ethnicity, and what it means to be an undocumented immigrant in the United States in our current day. Immigrants and their diverse identities are not only homogenized and erased, but, when they are recognized, they always come with the weight of a negative and inescapable stigma, no matter how much they assimilate to the “American Dream” or work for their “papers” so that they can be considered a “legal” human being. Many undocu people are not even here by choice, and this is the only home they know. Additionally, this video seeks to focus on the Black Undocu experience. With well over 500,000 Americans being part of this population, they are often left out of the conversation and like many Black Americans, their mere existence is criminalized.
